How do you make coffee?

CHEMEX

What You'll Need: • Chemex brewer • Chemex filter • Freshly ground coffee (medium-coarse grind) • 500ml water • Digital scale • Kettle • Timer • Coffee mug • Coffee and water ratio – 1:16 (1 gram of coffee per 15 grams of water)

Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. Heat water  Bring 500ml of filtered water to about 98°C (just below boiling). While waiting, set up your Chemex and place a filter inside, ensuring the thicker, triple-folded side is against the spout. 2. Rinse the filter Pour some hot water through the filter to rinse out any papery taste. This also preheats your Chemex. Discard the water from the carafe before moving to the next step. 3. Weigh and grind your coffee Measure out 30 grams of coffee beans and grind them to a medium-coarse grind (resembling sea salt).  4. Add coffee grounds to the chemex Place the ground coffee in the filter and give the Chemex a gentle shake to flatten the coffee bed. 5. Bloom the coffee (30-50 seconds) Start your timer and pour 60-70ml of water over the grounds in a spiral motion, ensuring all coffee is saturated. Let it bloom for 30-50 seconds. This allows the gases to escape, setting the stage for proper extraction. 6. Pour in the remaining water (3:30–4:30 minutes) After blooming, continue pouring water in slow, controlled spirals, starting from the center and working your way outward, avoiding the filter's sides. Pour in intervals, adding about 100-150ml of water at a time, allowing it to drip between pours. Aim to finish pouring all 500ml of water between 3:00 and 3:30 minutes. 7. Wait and enjoy Once all the water has passed through the grounds (total time should be around 4-5 minutes), remove the filter and discard the grounds. Give your coffee a gentle swirl to mix the flavors and serve immediately.

V60

What You'll Need: • V60 dripper • V60 paper filter • Freshly ground coffee (medium-fine grind) • 340ml water • Digital scale • Kettle • Timer • Coffee mug • Coffee and water ratio – 1:16 (1 gram of coffee per 15 grams of water)

Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. Heat water Heat 340ml of filtered water to about 98°C (just below boiling). While waiting, set up the V60 and insert the filter, ensuring it fits snugly against the sides. 2.Rinse the filter Pour some hot water through the filter to rinse away the papery taste and preheat your mug or carafe. Discard the water before continuing. 3. Weigh and grind your coffee Measure out 22 grams of coffee beans and grind them to a medium-fine consistency (resembling fine sea sand). Freshly ground coffee ensures maximum flavor extraction. 4. Add coffee grounds to the V60 Place the ground coffee into the filter and give the V60 a gentle shake to level out the coffee bed. 5. Bloom the coffee (30-40 seconds) Start your timer and pour about 40-50ml of water in a spiral motion to saturate the coffee grounds. Allow the coffee to bloom for 30-40 seconds to release gases and improve extraction. 6. Pour the remaining water (up to 3:00-3:30 minutes) Continue slowly and evenly pouring the water in spiral motions, starting from the center and working outward, avoiding the filter sides. Pour in intervals, adding water until you've reached the total of 340ml. Aim to complete the pour by 2:00-2:30 minutes. 7. Wait and enjoy Once all the water has passed through the coffee grounds (total time around 3:00-3:30 minutes), remove the filter and discard the grounds. Give the coffee a gentle stir to balance the flavors, and enjoy immediately.

FRENCH PRESS

What You'll Need: • French press • Freshly ground coffee (coarse grind) • 500ml water • Digital scale • Kettle • Timer • Coffee mug • Coffee and water ratio – 1:14 (1 gram of coffee per 14 grams of water)

Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. Heat water Heat 500ml of filtered water to about 98°C (just below boiling). While the water is heating, set up your French press. 2. Weigh and grind your coffee Measure out 35 grams of coffee beans and grind them to a coarse consistency (similar to breadcrumbs). Coarse grind is ideal for French press to prevent over-extraction. 3. Add coffee grounds to the french press Place the ground coffee at the bottom of your French press. 4. Pour water and start the timer Pour all 500ml of hot water into the French press, slowly, over the coffee grounds, making sure all the grounds are saturated. Start your timer for 5 minutes. 5. Stir after 1 minute After 1 minute, give the coffee a gentle stir to break the crust that has formed on top and to ensure even extraction. 6. Place the lid on After stirring, place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled all the way up to retain heat while the coffee continues to brew. 7. Press the plunger and serve (after 5 minutes) When the timer reaches 5 minutes, slowly press the plunger down, separating the grounds from the brewed coffee. Pour the coffee into your mug immediately to avoid over-extraction. 8. Enjoy Serve the coffee right away and enjoy its rich, full-bodied flavor.
